I come from a family who consider intellectual sparring a sport, to my annoyance at times. I have found 300 points to be the benchmark of winning most games. I have lost to my mother who scored 408 points, but 300 will win 8 out of 10 games.

Beginners who break 200 are on their way to being good players as well.

Actually, in Scrabble tournaments it is very difficult to win with a 300. Most tournament players find in a personal defeat to score fewer than 200 in any game! 350 is more reasonable as a winning score, but it is common for those players to score 400-500 games in tournaments. The record is around 770! What a good score is really depends on the player and is competition, as well as the luck of the draw. I have been play for almost 20 years, and have not reached 600, ever! In a two-player game. 300 or more is a reasonable expectation. If more people are playing, 250 is reasonable.

It's not clear what you mean by 'score' so I am giving good scores for both a turn, and the entire game...

I play Scrabble online everyday at Scrabulous - http://www.scrabulous.com - and have made the following notes:

A good average score for each turn is 20. If you can maintain it you will get a nice score at the end of the game. And the total score which is considered good in a game of Scrabble is anything above 350. Above 400 means you are fairly pro-level.

Scrabble is one of those pursuits where 'good' is really relative.
An excellent recreational player who beats all their family and friends rather effortlessly will generally STILL not be up to the standard of a mediocre tournament player.
A true world class expert will typically average 30 to 35 points per turn. That's just average. If he/she draws well, make it 40+ points per turn.
An average tournament player will score perhaps 360 in a typical game, averaging perhaps 22 pts per turn.
The level of opposition affects the score also. Against weak players, you will score more; against excellent players, you will score less.
For recreational players, it's usually difficult to maintain 13-15 pts per turn. 300 is a good enough benchmark to strive for.
