If you want to buy something you could look at CryptoSuite at

http://www.ghostsecurity.com/cryptosuite/

Another option (which I like a little better) is to buy a password protected USB key. This site http://www.edgetechcorp.com/usb-flash-drives/diskgo-secure-flash-drives.asp
has such a 1 gb drive for $40. The benefits of using this type of drive is that your files are your own, and you can take them with you.

That all said, if you are using XP then you can encrypt all the files in a folder. It uses your XP ID (not your password) to encrypt them, so my guess is that an administrator can de-crypt them. I haven't tried that even though I'm an adminstrator on a site. To encrypt them this way, just right click on a folder and get the properties of the folder. On the general tab, you will see a button marked "Advanced" you can encrypt all the files and folders within the folder. When you go into the folder as yourself, you don't see any difference. If you go into it as someone else, they will see the filenames, but can't access the information. In some cases a filename is enough to infer the file's contents.

Yes you can do it...there are three ways in my point of view:

1) Use "Winzip" and protect the zip folder with strong password. At this stage the files will be shown with "+" sign and if you want to hide files as well then put the password protected file into new folder and zip it again with same or any other password. Note: there are utilities available on the Internet to recover zip file password.

2) You can use other third party softwares like "Folder Guard" or any other.

3) If you are using WinXP with NTFS and if your house members have own user account then don't worry save everything in your "My Documents" folder it will not be visible to others except to administrator type users.

Hope above info will help you.

You can use the WinEncrypt CryptArchiver encryption software ( http://www.winencrypt.com ).

It creates a special Encrypted Drive that can only be accessed with a password. Files stored in this drive are automatically encrypted on-the-fly. Once loaded, the encrypted drive is like any other drive.
When you unload the encrypted drive, it disappears from Windows. No one can access your data without the password. Load the Encrypted Drive again with the password, to access your files.

Advantage is that you use don't have to remember multiple passwords, and you don't have to individually encrypt/decrypt each file. Also, you can also install programs secretly on the drive.
