Pit bulls have been selectively bred over the last 300 yrs with one purpose in mind: to kill each other, or other dogs. That is why they're called "pit" bulls--they were put into a fighting arena called a "pit". They have been used to "bait" (fight) bulls, bears, other dogs, rats, etc. since the time of Henry VIII and probably before.
You can't wipe out centuries of breeding and training and make a family pet out of a strong, agressive animal just by taking it into your home. I know the owners of such dogs talk about how "sweet" and "gentle" they are...but tragedies like this keep happening.
People should be more responsible and not keep such animals in their homes. If you want a family pet, get a dog with a better temperament.

A dangerous dog is a dog that bites. You don't make it safe by being a 'pit-bull-type'. Tories were going to ban breeds. The typical security services dogs get used by the blind if they're brought up right. Insure by the kilogram (20kg = £20pa): proved by a dated collar disc.

It's unfortunate for the girl and for the dog. Even with the reputation of the Pit Bull I have been around plenty of very nice and gentle Pits. A lot of their behavior is taught to them by the owner. Any dog can be aggressive and attack, it's all in how they were raised.

It should never be allowed for parents to own these dangerous dogs, they always attack children. Better still ban these type of dogs alltogether. The goverment wants us to stop smoking and to eat healthy foods, not binge drink, but do nothing about this problem.

Unfortunately, dogs are going to maul, bite, trip up & generally cause damage to humans so long as we keep them in close proximity to us.
The MEDIA like to make a story out of one or two cases every year when sales are a bit slow. No, I'm not being callous, just brutally honest about the press. They like a good 'tragedy', it sells papers.
It is UK LAW that these dogs must be muzzled & on a leach when out in public...but not banned.
I personally knew the mother of the 'first' widely publicised pitbull mauling that happened in Arbroath (Scotland) - her little girl had part of her face (including lips) bitten off. The dog was immediately destroyed to retrieve the tissue for re-attachment.
But the sad FACT is that more people are bitten & seriously injured by the so-called placid pet dogs such as collies, Labradors & Alsatians (due to there being more of them), yet no outcry over these.
The PRESS likes to victimise in order to create hysteria.
More people are injured with kitchen knives & falling off ladders than dog related injuries (just go to your local A&E department!) yet they still sell them.

Reintroduce the dog license fee, starting at £1,000 p.a. for those irritating little yappy dogs and rising to the sky's the limit for the killing machines that inadequates insist on keeping, 2000% VAT on dog food to help pay for cleaning up the mess they disburse.

Almost everyone in England seems to own a dangerous dog of some description.
Maybe the English people are cowards, and prefer their dogs to do the fighting for them.
A sad country in decline.
