I am an only child, but I get mistaken quite frequently for another woman. Complete strangers start conversations with me thinking I am her. We have the same hair cut, skin coloring, and what's really amazing is I have a very Southern accent and this woman does also. I really think some people don't believe me when I tell them I'm not her. I've never seen her and chances are, I'd probably think she looks nothing like me, but others say we could be identical twins.

It happens very frequently. There's even a term, "doppelganger", to describe the phenomenum; of course if you take two people (even identical twins) and study them hard enough, you can identify clear differences. Think about it, given the fact that there are billions of us, and that the range of variation in height, weight, general build, skin/hair/eye color and posture is actually not all that great in the general scheme of things, it would be a statistical anamoly if there weren't a few dozen people out there who look EXACTLY like you!

Apparantly. My dad was thrown out of a bar once because the owner thought he was someone else who had changed clothes and returned after making an @55 of himself. I also once met another family with no relation to us that looked like they could be relatives. I was mistaken for one of THEM once.

In terms of appearance, sure, since there's only so many genes that control physical features. I would seriously doubt someone who isn't your identical twin would have the same genes as you. And someone who isn't a relative I don't think possibly could have the exact same genes as you. But there could be people who have genes that affect appearance that are similar to yours.

I've always heard everyone has a double, there may be some truth in that.I had a friend and we look so much alike we were always being mistaken for one another. Although we didn't think we looked alike others did.

Depends how close you mean. I have an identical twin and even we have quite noticeable differences. However, yes, you can have people that look similar enough to be mistaken by you. I've seen several individuals that I would swear were friends of mine, but as I've approached them I could tell it wasn't them. But they were really close.

I say no, because we are all related. There is dna that can only be found in a male that will link each and everyone of us to Adam and Eve.
