Why do we get Presidents like Nixon and the Bushes? Is this really something to be proud of?

This is the result of a two party system which promotes within each party those persons with the personalities that drive them to strive to stand on top of the dung pile no matter what others are throwing at them year after year and campaign after campaign. Politics is the art of compromise and those on top are both the best compromisers and the most compromised so we don't get true statesmen who can stand up for a priori truth, but those who rather willingly climb into bed with whatever power broker will pay the most and offer them the biggest chance of further self promotion. This is the sorry state of American politics! As a citizen I am chagrined, ashamed and powerless.

Is there something wrong with being moral?Is there something wrong with protecting America?Your question indicates that.I can not understand people who want to continually tear down this country and tear down people with any kind of religious affiliation,I thought this was America,what happened to freedom of religion and the right to be religious instead of freedom from religion.I cannot understand the hatred people have now just because they believe in God and go to church.Didnt most all the presidents have moral values to a point and didnt most all the other presidents go to church?What has he done differently except trying to protect us from terrorists.Man some of you Bush haters really need to check yourselves for anger managment.Enough is enough,this is getting old.Jimmy Carter went to church and no one griped about his peanut farming brain.I guess Clinton is your God,rapes women,steals furniture from the white house and trashes it upon departure.This your idea of a great leader?

The cons and neo-cons think that sex is the only morality issue. War, corruption, and supporting dictators are not moral issues to them. Watergate, giving chemical weapons to Saddam, Iran-Contra, Iraq War etc are natural results of people who have no real morality.

it's something to be ashamed of. politicians (especially republicans) tend to be very hypocritical. and with our electoral college, which i want to destroy, we get terrible presidents even if the popular vote is won by someone else.
