Your right, it could be early labour. Your probably very anxious right now knowing that you are 37weeks. I'm 32 weeks with my 2nd daughter and I have been having a painfull spot when the midwife feels my tummy, she said it was just because the baby is head down and getting ready for the birth. If you are worried though call your midwife and just ask her to check you, if your not in labour then ok, but if you are at least you know. From experience though you will definitely know when you are in labour and things don't happen straight away, they progress slowly and it can take a while. My labour was 18 hours with my daughter. Try and relax, a warm bath should help.
Good luck xx

It maybe Braxton Hicks contractions the contractions you get to prepare you for labor. They are the contractions that lower the baby into the birth canal prior to actual labor. I think you should still consult your doctor, you don't want to take any chances putting you or your baby in harms way. Best of luck and congratulations.

I had the same problem when I was 36 weeks preg. (now 38), it woke me up and it hurt to stand straight up, to walk, or to even sit back down. I ended up going to the hospital where they monitered the baby and did an ultrasound. It even hurt with the ultrasound especially around my belly button. My doc said everything looked fine and he told me it was stretching and the way my son was laying. I would still can your doc though, he will prob. want to see you.
