Socialism, is when the government owns everything, or controls all economic conditions to the point it apparently owns everything in the economy.
In other words, the government either owns a business, or tells all the businesses what they can sell their products for. No matter how much you business earns, or how much anyone else's business earns, you get the same amount of pay as the other guy, through redistributive system of taxation so that everyone acquires the same amount of income.
The government makes huge revenues and uses them to distribute state provided healthcare, education, and other programs that benefit the citizen.
I am not aware of any countries that currently operate under a true socialist government, nor am I aware of any country that ever has. In every society that has claimed to, there has always been a select few that reserved special privileges for themselves for being the rulers of the country.
Socialism differs from communism, in the fact that the government has stricter control over what the citizens own, and everyone has the same. You may have a different style tooth brush than your neighbor, but you both are provided them by the state. This type of government likewise does not exist, because there are those who consider themselves the leaders that feel they deserve special privileges and wealth as well.
All governments exhibit both of these elements in varying degrees, to run efficiently they must.
Example:
Welfare is socialism based, but does not make a country socialist, nor does wishing to help the poor through welfare programs logically make someone guilty of trying to promote socialism.
At boot camp you are trained into a communist style living. The state provides everything, and no one has anymore than anyone else. This is to get you accustomed to being able to live under the conditions you will face if you have to go to war.
All governments have to exhibit different degrees of al the government theoretical structures at different levels to run efficiently, or it wouldn't operate long.
could you imagine a government that had to vote on everything and follwo majority rule on every decision it made? even less would get done than our own governments achieve.

Europeans are for the most part socialist. Reason for this most who live in France are French, most who live in Germany are Germans, and most who live in Italy are Italians. Socialism is a social network of health care, job security, and retirement security managed by the government. In the USA, social security, prime and secondary schools, and libraries are examples of socialism. There are more radical forms of socialism practiced in Asia like in China, but that is communism not socialism. Big difference between the two systems. Communism is a complete takeover and control by the government, while socialism is when the government gets involved but still gives the people some breathing room to make free decisions.

Socialism - a theory advocating public ownership of means of production with work and products shared. The same as communism, but it never works because those at the top are always greedy and in the end as in all governments corruption abounds, and people usually end up with a dictator. Such as Cuba, Russia, China,etc.. One of the best reasons Americans must vote and keep voting out incumbents that don't work for legal Americans or we could end up with a dictator in this country.

China, Cuba, Brazil, and Venezuela are the best definitions, although no modern company follows true Socialism.
True socialism is the stage between capitalism and true communism, literally a state enforced version of Communism.

i get a kick outa terms like"free healthcare"that dx is not there for free. the rx he gives were not free. who pays?taxes right. now socialism does not promote overachievment either because what is the gain to working 18 hrs a day for a medical breakthrough if you re not rewarded. doctors and ditchdiggers at close to the same rate . if they do get paid differently, then there is social classes again. so socialism punishes the hardworking and rewards the lazy.
