When at the counter of a Wendy's or Burger King, or any other similar establishment, have you ever noticed what happens to an order that came out wrong, and the customer gives it back?
Even when untouched, it gets thrown in the trash.
My question is what are you thinking when you see this?
Also, other restaurants, what do they do with unwanted food items?
And, one more thing, what about habitual customers that return orders? Aren't they eating up profits? What do establishments do about them?
Thanks.

Thumbs up to you for not getting mad at people correcting your spelling! ( yeah, some get pretty mad on here when you do that!!!)
Throwing away perfectly good food makes me ILL. I know their reasoning and maybe in a way it makes sense but still, to see people hovering around the corner and watching for the trash to come out the back door of some establishments is heartbreaking!
I say give the leftovers to them and have them sign a waver that says they will not sue .

Our neighbor doesn't just mean the person next door, it is the people around us, down the street, at church, at the grocery store.,wherever.

It is very wasteful. They should have taken the time to get the order right the first time, it would have taken what, 5 seconds? I'm allergic to some things they put on, but they have already made the burger before I can tell them that. They're going to have to make it again. What to do with the wrong order? Since they messed up, if you want it you should be able to have it I guess. It's silly for them to take it back and throw it away. I'm sure it doesn't affect profits too much, they are multi-billion dollar chains after all.

I don't generally have feelings about it one way or the other. A good manager works hard to ensure their folks get the order right to begin with, & if someone starts pulling that stunt repeatedly you simply decline to serve them at all.
We do have an incredible amount of wasted food in the US, & it would be great if more it from restaurants & grocery stores could be routed to shelters, food banks, & ministries.
Much of it already does thru the hard work of volunteers w numerous charities, but even that is a challenge to find someone who is willing/available to regularly pick it up, & deliver it where it's needed on a regular basis.

They count it as waste and it gets thrown in the garbage. The workers can't even take home food that has been discarded for their pets or they get fired for stealing, even though it is already listed as garbage. It is part of the tax right off for them to count up their waste. Even so, it can still be counted and given to someones dog. But then they must not want sued when the dog dies from eating it.

its spelled discarded and all restaurants have an allowance or write off for food is it wrong? probably, seeing there is probably a homeless guy down the street that would happilly take it, am i worried about their profits? no not so much seeing as though Wendys and every other restaurant spends billions of dollars in advertising alone i think that they know what they are doing, if they did not siscard it it might end up in your hands that would be wrong seeing as you paid for a FRESH burger etc... my best advice... dont eat fast food it makes you fat and clogs your arteries

We can thank the government and lawyers for one more example of wasting of our assets.
Government heavily regulates food distribution and it would be very costly for an business to set up a mechanism to distribute the undesired items.
Secondly butsinesses would face an extreme liability risk with no finacial return on such an effort.

It is a waste. I think we waste more ffod in the US than any other country. It could be used as hog food instead of land fill. You can't donate food these days because people may sue if they get sick from it.
