my friend said that every dvd burner has a limit for no. of burning that it can perform. For example,if i've burned 1000 times, after that the dvd burner tends to fail. Is this true? I always burn my movies and backup my files on dvd+r. he said that people usually buy the external dvd burner,so that when it got damage,it is easy to replace, compared to built-in dvd burner in laptop. Should i worry about this and bought external burner eventhough the one in my laptop is perfectly fine?

The only limitation I am aware of is on the number of times that the zone may be changed on a DVD drive to view DVDs from different countries. This is a small number - I think it is 7.

Limitations on burning? None. Just life expectancy of the device, just like the human body.

I also use DVD Flick - if you are going to author the DVD as an "image file" on your HD (which is fine - that's how I used to do it on my old computer, and haven't seen the need to do it differently now), you should be able to "burn" the image to a blank DVD using the software that came with your DVD burner. My PC came w/Roxio SE, an OEM program that does less than Easy Media Creator 8 on my XP machine (but likely incompatible w/Vista). I say this to save you the trouble of downloading one more program (to burn the image file) than you already need. So check the DVD software that came w/your machine - if it will burn images, you shouldn't need to download another program (even if free) that does the same thing.

the burner doesn't have a limit, its just that the "burning" piece on the burner is wearing out. 1000 times is quite a lot, its been used good though. you might want to buy an external drive to burn with

As far as i know, like all man made things, the dvdr can burn out eventually, but for as much as you pay it should take a loooong time. There is no set limit of burns.

No. It is a lie. Ditch your "friends." They aren't smart enough to be your friend.
