The light from the earth hits the moon and is reflected back to us. During the day we can't see it because the sun is too bright.

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's amore.
Plus, that's when the sky is dark enough to see the light of the sun reflecting off the moon.

The same reason why you can't see a TV picture when the sun is shining on it. The moon is not usually bright enough to see during the day.

Our sun is on the back side of our earth, consequently it is night time. The sun is still shining on the moon making it very bright and since it is night time for use the contrast is very high.

The moon appears brighter during night because it is just over our heads reflecting more light of sun. This also happens with sun, when it is overhead (that is about 12:00 pm), its intensity is maximum as we recieve more light of sun.
