well im no expert on hamsters, but my friend had a dwarf hamster and had the same problem but thought it had died. she only realised it was still breathing whe she was about to bury the poor little thing, turn outs it was hibernating, but just to be sure with yours id seek advice from you local vet. Also dwarf hamsters are VERY sensative creature and as sad as it is, dont tend to last that long.

As others have said it may be hibernating, try moving him to a warmer room and see what happens. You don't say how old he is, unfortunately hamsters have a short lifespan so this could be the signs of old age or illness. The news may not be good, but you will need to get him checked out by a vet asap.

A vet may help more but here's what I learned the hard way. Hamsters hibernate, (I buried 2 before I learned this)...Place him in a towel and over a heating pad, he will soon come around.

the second site tells how to wake him from hibernation, Good Luck
Good advice Chris, wet tail can be very dangerous. NEVER feed lettuce to rodents with a water bottle. They can have one or the other. I also learned this the hard way :))

it may be having a seizure , if its still going on it may be in a coma. this is a hamster that my have been extremely stressed or had an allergic reaction. but it may just be old . if this goes on for more than 2 days and he is at least 2years old put him down.but i is very likely he will die. but if he has wet tail then just take him\her to the vet because wet tail is actually cure able , but always remember a hamster is a very small very frail creature and cant take much hurt. .....if your hamster dies remember there wasn't much you could do

if the room is cold the hamster will be hibernating. Put the cage next to a warm radiator and it will wake up - you can also warm it in your hands - massage the fur carefully if tame. This is fairly common in hamsters. If sick - check nether regions for wet patches around the tail - "wet tail" - you will need to go to the vet for this one! let us know how the little chap gets on.
good luck

Seek advice from a vet. Your hamster may be very ill, in shock or gone into a deep sleep. Either way you should get it to the vets to make sure it is not suffering.
good luck

It sounds like your hammie has gone into hibernation! When animals go into hibernation their breathing rate and heart rate slows right down and their body temperature drops too, but to be sure if your really attached to him its worth popping along to the vets!
Hope i've helped!
