An oil well nearly ALWAYS produces natural gas along with the oil. Anything less than 100 cubic feet of gas per barrel of oil is unusual, and from 300 to 1000 cubic feet per barrel is typical.

Down in the reservoir, all that gas is dissolved in the oil by the high pressure, and as the oil comes to the surface, the pressure drops and the gas comes out, like unscrewing a soda bottle. At the well head, the production line may be carrying only a few per cent of oil by volume, as suspended droplets in the gas stream.

The oil companies make big investments in how to separate the oil and gas, and get the best market for each. Most of their gas will be sold into the "Natural Gas" market.

Some reservoirs produce very very gassy oil, called "condensate", and some produce just gas, but you never really know which until it starts coming up.

The 3 fossil fuels are coal, oil and natural gas. Natural gas is sometimes found with crude oil, but it is not a petroleum product. It is mostly methane, CH4, with a little ethane. It is drilled for in wells. It is much cleaner burning than oil or coal.
Currntly they are working on making natural gas from coal. It is produced naturally from the decomposition of plants and animals and by cows burping. Landfills can trap the gas produced. We do have natural gas deposits.

Adding on to what "science teacher" said, the biggest potential for natural gas in the US is coal bed methane, which is methane gas trapped within coal seams, which there are a lot of in the US.

natural gasses come from the trees and animals that are in the ground for thousands of years. i don't honestly know if we get it from other countries i do know we have a huge supply here in the states that we can use if we needed to .but currently there are no cars that are set up to run on natural gas so we still need the oil from other countries

natural gas can normally be found in crude oil well on top of the crude. Gas and oil wells, go hand in hand

No its not. There are three types of natural fuels. And those are CRUDE OIL (which is used to make gasoline, parrafin, wax etc in the process of catalytic cracking), NATURAL GAS (which consists of mainly methane), and COAL (which is semi-burned wood). All three are combusted to give energy.
