If you believe, as I do, that God is the Creator of all things, that necessarily includes the human mind. Our search for knowledge is a God-given human trait that has brought much good into the world (medicine, for example). Although there are many unanswerable questions that we can turn over to God, that does not mean we must be ignorant of all things. When we want to learn, it is always helpful, indeed, necessary, to start with what other people have learned. We may explore these ideas with a critical view or an open mind, that is a choice up to the individual, but remember, many views that at first seem contrary to one's beliefs can be viewed from another perspective and then one can see that they may be compatible, or at least partially so. Jesus invited discussion among his disciples of the most holy of topics, because he wanted mankind to understand the world and the world of ideas in all its wonder. "With God, all things are possible" -- that must include the ability to interact with philosophies and fields of study and remain faithful. Exposure to different points of view is not dangerous; if you are secure in your basic faith, metaphysics can actually expand that faith because you then consider all the possibilities. Imagine how excited you would be to find a metaphysical understanding to strengthen and add to your spiritual life! Only a shaky believer would feel threatened by other people's viewpoints -- if your faith is strong, and you use the mind God gave you, you have nothing to lose. Personally, I would recommend enriching your understanding of God and his works by exploring this kind of discussion.

Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the nature of the world. It is the study of being or reality. It addresses questions such as: What is the nature of reality? Is there a God? What is man's place in the universe?

Metaphysics is split into three parts, now regarded as the traditional branches of Western metaphysics, called:
(1) ontology is the study of existence: the definition of entities and classes of entities, such as physical or mental entities; the nature of the properties of entities; and the nature of change.
(2) theology is the study of God (or the gods) and of questions about the divine.
(3) universal science is the study of first principles.

Theology is reasoned discourse concerning religion, spirituality and gods. Theologians attempt to use rational analysis and argument to discuss, interpret, and teach on any of a myriad of religious topics. Theology might be undertaken simply to help the theologian understand more truly his or her own religious tradition or another religious tradition, or to facilitate comparisons between traditions, or with a view to the preservation or reform of a particular tradition, or to assist in the propagation of a tradition, or to apply the resources of a tradition to some present situation or need, or for a variety of other reasons.

Why would a "rational analysis" go against your beliefs in God?

No. God falls under the realm of metaphysics, actually. Metaphysics is a pretty huge field that is more or less anything that does occur, but can't be explained through accepted science.

Hi Dolphin Girl,

The study of metaphysics in no way conflicts with the belief in God. Most of the greatest theologians were also metaphysicians. Properly understood, metaphysics is the study of "First Principles." It is the study of Ontology and Cosmology. It is the study of the underlying order that gives rise to all reality, and thus fits in perfectly with faith. I say -- "expand your horizons" and make this year the year you do that. Cheers.

No such thing as Metaphysics. 'Meta' means beyond. There is nothing beyond Life/light/energy/physics. All are projections from 'Source'.

If you want to get closer to the true nature of the universe, you have to become exposed to all knowledge, not just what you want to believe. What good is believing in something you determine to be false or not likely?

Or put another way "Ignorance is bliss".

If I don't learn about taxes, does that mean I don't have to pay them?
