Whenever I go travelling and people find out I´m from Austria they react really negative and ask me if I´m a nazi. I want to know your opinion please!

A lot of those, what do Americans think, what do Chinese think, etc, questions keep coming up. It should be realized that the person answering can't answer for the entire population. He can tell what's in his mind only.
As for me, the answer is NO. I have good friends who were born and raised in Austria, they're anything but nazis.

No. Only the people in Austria who are members of the new Nazi party are Nazis. Everyone else in Austria is not a Nazi.
Do all Austrians generalize about other cultures? Trying to generalize about the United States is like looking at a many-hued rainbow and saying, "it's yellow."

Have you ever seen the musical movie The Sound of Music? Very popular in English-speaking countries. And because it really dumbs down WWII politics, and definitely shows Austrians as pro-Nazi, I think it is a major factor in the confusion. Also, what with the similar accent (to English speakers) and the geographic closeness, I think it's just intellectual laziness. Same way Americans and Canadians are confused, or English and Australians. I doubt they really think *you* are a Nazi, they just don't understand the details of the history.

I'm American with some family roots in Austria (Schubert on Paternal grandmothers side) and NO I don't think you are a Nazi.
Even some German on my mothers side and I don't think Germans are Nazi's!

No. Why? Do you think all americans are hot dog eating, overweight white dudes? Grown up, mature people dont think of Austria in that way.....in fact....we love Austria.....especially Sydney.
