Here are some rock groups from the 70s and 80s. I am recommeding compilation albums (greatest hits), especially if you're new to each artist. It's good to start out with an artist by listening to the highlighted greats. If you find an artist you absolutely love, then try to find a complete studio recordings collection. Check out the following:
Group - Journey Album - Greatest Hits My personal favorite songs - Don't Stop Believin', Separate Ways, Open Arms, Faithfully
Group - Foreigner Album - Complete Greatest Hits My person favorites - I Want to Know What Love Is, Cold As Ice, Hot Blooded
Group - Led Zepplin Album - Early Days & Latter Days (2 discs)
Group - Pink Floyd Album - Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd (2 discs)
-----------------------------------
That's a good start for classic rock. For newer alternative artists, check out The Postal Service, The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, and Muse.
Also, I really suggest these 2 very under appreciated artists from the 1960s. They aren't really rock or anything, but for a nice eclectic collection of music, you definitely have to have: 1) The Zombies; and 2) Otis Redding.
