Well, they are not going to give you a replacement, but if you take it to your local service center, they may be willing to fix it free or at least give you a repair estimate. Usually the technicians have a number of the most common replacement parts and may be willing to put a new screen in your phone for free or at a small cost. I think after that you would be wise to get the insurance which costs about $3 to $5 per month and covers situations such as this, or if you loose your phone, or if you drive over it in the parking lot (happens a lot because people put it on the roof of the car while getting in), or if you drop it in the dishwater, etc, etc. You might want to get a protective case that clips on your belt (they cost about $20 to $25). In any case, you need to go in and talk to them. They will tell you all your options. They will help you. It is in their best interests to have you with a phone that works so that you can continue using their services.

is the plastic bit cracked or the actuall LCD bit.
Both can be replaced, the costs are wildly apart.
Go to ebat and pice up a facia if it is the plastic case.
Try to find a broken phone on ebay with a working screen if it is LCD.
There will be an online 'how to' to take the thing apart and replace the screen, just google.
Last resort, and most exspensive, goto phone shop and pay for repair(get a quote first)

call up the retailer and call a bluff
say you only opened the phone a day or two ago and found the screen was broken.DONT SAY THAT YOU BROKE IT
all new phones are normallly guaranteed for one year......insurance or not
