Why haven'y I heard of antimatter? I first got acquainted with it through Dan Brown's novel... So, when I started reading it, I was like "wow!"... But when I did a research about it, I realized it has been long known to exist. So why haven't I heard of it?

The existence of antimatter is not a secret. If you are interested in it and were unaware of its existence, take that as a clue that you should try to learn more about science.

I know this sounds crazy but everything in the universe has a opposite to it..thus if you have matter you also have antimatter.There are endless examples of this ie; light-vs-dark,etc...most people give up on this way of thinking because any tangible proof does not exist and is only based on theory.

You haven't taken enough science classes.
If your first intro is a book by Dan Brown I suggest you find some real science books on that subject.

What makes you think 'why haven't I heard of antimatter before i read a book' a worthwhile science question.

Suffice to say many people had heard of it.

Star Trek the original series in the 60's has been talking about anti-matter, it is what powers their warp engines, filtered through dilithium crystals
