I'm 61 and I think I'm just starting. Things I have done since turning 55:
1. Gone to college and got a AA in social sciences. 3.81 GPA
2. Started writing humor columns for a couple of local papers.
3. Work at County Library...started 2nd job at High School Library.
4. Deeply involved in civic affairs of my small town.
5. Fallen in love and very firmly entrinched in romantic relationship/
6. Almost finished with my first fantasy novel.
7. Read a new book almost every week and re-read my favorites all the time
That is only a sample. I did not even mention learning to ride a horse...or re-learned. (Haven't been on one since 1963) or grandchildren...or even half the things I do that are fun everyday.
And you are 45? You whippersnapper! You got a lot of good ahead of you...just go for it. Do the stuff you know is fun and give the stuff you aren't sure of a try.
I'm doing fun stuff right this minute.

Around the time I turned 50 I went through a crisis of realizing that I had more years behind me than ahead of me.
After some serious soul searching I changed some things, got rid of some others and have now, 7 years later, come to realize that the best years of my life are the ones spent serving GOD, writing, singing Southern Gospel music and yes answering questions on Y/A.

I'm also middle-aged and know what you mean. It's easy to see
your life as being half over in a world that worships the young
and often pushes aside the older and more experienced. Forty-five is far from old, though, you still have a lot of years to go.
There's no telling what lies ahead for any of us,which gives reason to hope.

It all depends on you.
Do you give up?
I was dating a 24 year old girl when I was 48.
If you think that you are old, you are old.
Keep dating and keep alive.
