It is really a nice question , i guess the most important thing you will have to know it very well as a good introduction is to learn about the functional groups ..... you will see that the substance in our life could be categorized in several types such as alchol(the function group in alchol is -OH), aldehyde(function group of it is -CHO) and so on

also as he said you have to care about the structures and how to draw it

also try to understand the mechanisms of reactions why this reaction is carry on and why it is not you will find all the types of chemical reactions in a branch of organic chemistry called physical chemistry

at last i hope to you best of luck and good luck with the very interesting branch of chemistry which is known as organic chemistry

rit, very good question.i know some are exceptional in organic chemistry and some are very poor but i remained good at it because my teacher told me that for learning organic chemistry,u will have to learn many things by heart.so keep doing it on note books.drawing its structure of compound, which are very important and just remember equation and structure.u can do rest.so practice it much as u do in math
wish you all the best
