I feel like saying that the world has gone mad, and you are all right, but saying this will be too commonplace a saying. I must, therefore, speak for myself as well. The fact I see is that you have good reasons to think like this. I was, for example, listening to the morning news bulletin, and what do I hear: the global warming is a fact now; the planet is doomed if we do not act; Africa will be the first region to be properly scorched where Gelada monkeys are escaping to ever so more higher altitudes on Ethiopian mountains to stay cool; and about hundred years ago there were just 1.5 billion people inhabiting this planet, there are over six billion now - a rise of 4.5 billion in just under a hundred year. I mean what can be more depressing and heart breaking than knowing that we who take pride in our being, in our intelligence, in our togetherness, are getting too much of a burden for the planet; we are like pest now, right?
Yes, I would like to have a spaceship for my kind of people in which to travel vast distances in space, across galaxies from star system to start system. This world is too crowed, too banal and too fussy a place for me now. I want to have endless time at my disposal, limitless expanses of space with humongous possibilities and chances available to my mind that is fast becoming so restless with the world.

And yet here you are, asking the whole mad world. Pardon me for being blunt...I did not mean to offend but only to point out the irony. Anyway, in answer to your question, NO, the whole world has not gone mad. It only seems that way but if you look in every nook and cranny, you will find sane ones who are maybe acting like crazy but are sane nonetheless.

The truth is that everyone on the planet is mad including you. I don't know why you think you are exempt from the madness. I hope that you are not the most mad of all. A sign of sanity is recognizing that you are crazy and a sign of craziness is thinking that you are sane. It's the old Catch 22 and damned if you do and damned if you don't. Get it, got it, watch it, and go for it.
Have a nice day on a It's a Mad, Mad World (I believe it was a funny movie).

Its just you, maybe you'd rather live in the era when Christians were being thrown to the lions, young girls burned at the stake for being witches, genocide of American Indians, or even a jew during the Holocaust? I skipped over many other eras where the world seemed to be going mad.
But i'm with you, i'd rather be on the first ship to colonize mars, where do i sign up?

A bit of both, maybe?
No, Jane.
It is just that Tarzan is on holiday...
And of course, one person leaves and the world is empty...
My psychiatrist warned me the day I will think everybody is mad except me, I must immediately call him...
I reply the day I think everybody is crazy except me, you might be the first on the list...
And he told me I was cured!
Cheer up, girl!
Look at the sky, the birds and the bees and you will see the wonder of life and believe me there are still many stargazers around!

No, it hasn't. People just forget each other and become lonely. If everyone did a simple act of service for someone everyday, wouldn't the world be a better place? Call it Pay It Forward, that's what I'm talking about.

everyone thinks they are the only sane one left-bear in mind that someone is looking at you and thinking the same thing-the world has gone mad largely due to religion and crap leadership

Jane, let me guess, you're in your mid - late twenties?
Even if your not, yep, the world has gone mad - we live in a disposable one - people throw things away when they don't want them now. I mentioned this in another answer.
Greed, lack of patience, driving ambition and the attempt at trying to get it all - that's life as we know it today.......
