Nicotine is a natural bug poison that tobacco produces. The cigarette companies breed tobacco plants to have high levels of it and add more to the cigarettes.
Nicotine addiction is hard to overcome. I quit smoking about 3 years ago (price got too high) but I tried to quit at least 5 or 6 times before that.

Nicotine is a defensive chemical found in tobacco plants. Believe it or not, nicotine is one of the most dangerous natural poisons there is. Some pest control companies even use it to kill bugs in buildings. Unfortunately, someone discovered it's effects on humans when inhaled and started growing it. I don't know exactly when tobacco companies boosted the levels of nicotine in cigs. I don't even know how they do it, if the plants are genetically altered to produce more nicotine or if they add it to the tobacco as it's processed.

I think it is natural but they add so much other harmful things to tobacco to make it addictive. My resolution this year is to quit.
