Well if you're going there all of it is a beautiful place. I'm from Sicily and I went there when I was younger. It is very family oriented and is also a very romantic place.

The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Vatican and Sistine chapel (yes I know its a city/country within Italy), Circus Maximus. I actually did all of the above in a matter of hours in Rome.
You have to get up early to get to the Vatican (be there by 8:30 on a weekday) and you miss the zillion people in line that will be there in an hour or 2. The Rome Metro rules for getting around to all the sights easily. The Colloseum and Circus Maximus are literally across the street from their subway exit (which are named after the sights).
The people were very helpful with directions and you barely have to even speak Italian to get by. I will definately go back.

Rome, of course. Venice, too. But Naples, the Island of Capri and Sorrento are breathtaking. It's near Vesuvius and Pompeii. Try southern Italy. It's often overlooked.

I'd just been there and I absolutely love the place. Its wonderful. There're brilliant sites like Colloseum, Capitol, Spanish Steps etc. And the shops there ROCK! You get these absolutely gorgeous Armani frocks which will cost you a fortune but it is worth having. If you're a guy I think you're gonna like the coats and jackets. I bought all of them. Loved it. And the food is even better. I thought I won't enjoy it but it is all very good. The ice-creams and desserts are especially delicious.

u mean italy as a nation or italy as the football team? if you are talking about the football team, i'd say people just like to see and enjoy the sports, just like watching some other teams like germany, brazil, france, etc...
i personally don't see a team play based on my pre-conceived ideas. i see what they can offer and enjoy it!!

People would probably want to see the famous chapels and churches. They might want go to Rome to see the Coloseum and the beautiful city of Venice.
