the prompt"press any key to boot from cd"only has to be done when it first boots up,after that you should ignore it from then on,otherwise you will be installing xp for the forseeable future
this is a common problem, you would think microsoft would put this as a prompt during installation
as you have sata discs, you may need drivers for these, but xp will recognize this and alert you of any drivers ect needed
what you need to do is a)insert the windows disc b)reboot c) when prompted "press any key to boot from cd" d) windows will then load files and then you will see the hard drives avaible to install xp on,also you can partition at this stage,a good idea is to partition a 10 to 20gb partition just for windows and the page file, this will leave the rest of your hard drive for storage of files ect
e)the partiton with windows xp on will be known as the system partiton or sometimes it is known as the boot patition as this is were windows boots from
f)after you have picked a partition to install xp on,press enter and sit back while xp installs, just have your product key ready andthen once xp installs you will be asked for all the users names and then it will boot up into windows
i was asked a similar question last night and i recommend if possible to download all your device drivers for your graphics, sound, chipset, and burn them to disc,so once you have installed xp you arent running around looking for the driver discs
her are some usefull links for some drivers you may need
1.nvidia forceware drivers>>http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
2. a.t.i catylyst drivers>>>http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
3. creative sounblaster>>>http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/
4. intel>>>http://support.intel.com/
5. amd>>>http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871,00.html
before you start a new installation try checking your ide ribbons on your cd/dvd rom and more important check the sata cables are correctly attached from your motherboard to the drive/s,take a look at this instructional slideshow....http://www.seagate.com/support/howto/install_guide/sata_slideshow.html and this will give you some additional help
also check your memory is seated correctly and the cpu fan is working ok(as well as other fans)
check you agp/pci-e card is also correctly inserted into its appropriate slot and if required attach a power connector to the card(some cards require additional power, similar leads to the hard drive /cd-rom power leads (5v power lead)
just remember to hit the "press any key to boot from cd" only once and partition the drive ,also check the disc isnt dirty, this may sound strange but a dirty disc can affect the installation of xp
i hope this helps ,and well done on your build, trust me you will be wanting to build another within weeks, dont let this software problem put you off
thinking about it,what type of xp disc is it,,upgrade or oem(original equipment manufacturer),a upgrade needs to be installed from a desktop normally, for example from windows 98,and a o.e.m is used by p.c builders and is installed from boot up like you are doing, however any windows xp disc should be able to be installed from boot
any other problems mate, just let me know and we will find a solution, again well done on your p.c build
happy new year mate!

I had a similar prob. To resolve it, next time it tells you to press enter, remove the disc from the drive, then press ctrl+alt+del to restart (or switch off the main power if this doesn't work). When it restarts this time, it should boot up fine, as it will now boot from the hard drive, rather than the disc

I recently reinstalled XP on my computer, it does reboot a couple times, I thought it had crashed but left if a wee while and it booted ok. Are you waiting long enough to let it run its course?

Umm, after it copys the files it always reboots.
Only this time it needs to boot from the hard drive.
Also be sure your bios SATA settings are set to the correct setting, because I bet it can't find your hard drive.

You do not hit enter to install windows. It starts automatically when it is ready.
