All reactions are either exothermic or endothermic. Explosive reactions are exothermic as they give out energy. When an e xplosive chemical combines with oxygen the activation energy is usually low and the reaction takes place spontaneously.Bonds are unstable and are easily broken when combined with oxygen.A lot of energy is released.Ideal conditions are unstable bonds, exothermic reaction and low activation energy.

it all about how reactive they are, and how much energy they need for the reaction to occur (activation energy required for oxidation).
