Interesting question. DNA is the blueprint for constructing the entire human body, including the brain. Every cell contains DNA, a unique admixture of genetic material contributed by both parents which is responsible for any hereditary facets of brain function, even affecting IQ and memory. DNA is also responsible for the genetic makeup of glands and hormones that may influence brain activity and general health. Some brain diseases (Huntington's) are actually hereditary. But day-to-day, DNA remains fairly inactive in the center (nucleus) of brain cells which do not divide and likely have little effect on daily thought processes 'once the machine is built.'

It's immensely important. You should read about FOXP2...it is an enzyme (a transcription factor) that turns genes on or off. People who have a disrupted FOXP2 gene have great difficulty with speech and comprehension.
