Pure survival instinct. It's in our nature to go on until the bitter end.

You see, what drives the body, the mind and the soul to live and exist in this world is the purpose of why they exist and live.
If that goal is achieved, the soul and its vehicles - the body and the mind wish to leave this world.
But, if the mind takes control of the other two, then, shall the case of suicides, murders etc come into place.
The conscience is able to detect the fault in its working and immediately wants to enter another vehicle through which it can accomplish its goal.Let me illustrate it better. If the mind takes control, feelings will be the horses for the corrupt vehicle. Thus when the mind feels sad, immediately, the mind wants to leave the seemingly lonely world and pass on. Thus the case of suicide.
Thus, fate and time play an important role.
You can end your life right now - go jump off your terrace, but you wont - and that's the conscience taking control.
I hope I have cleared your doubt.

It's a tendency innate in even the smallest cells and living organisms. Since we are composed of millions of these cells with this will to survive imprinted within them, we add to that our intellect and emotion and fight to live. We have attachments to other living beings which results in our attachment to physical life even if or when our bodies are worn out and no longer serve us.
If that drive to remain alive wasn't part of our genetic make-up people would be tempted to give up too easily.

I get up at 3:30 every morning, six days a week and then work about 11 or 12 hours.
I must get through that to be able to do what gives me purpose, meaning and fulfillment in my life.
Writing, singing Southern Gospel, working on my web-site and, yes, answering question on Y/A.

Is this just a rhetorical question? OR perhaps one looking for suggestions with regard to NOT going on?
I suspect you are not at a point yet where you've "Gone on" very long, but hopefully you will, and in the time it takes to get from beginning to end, you may learn enough to answer your own Q, in whole or part.
Good luck.
