I'm assuming you mean 3-1/2 months, not years? lol. If you ask your pediatrician, they'll most likely tell you No. But I started putting a little cereal (the paper-thin flakes, which just thickened the milk a little) in my son's bottle when he was about 2-1/2 months. He was crying and crying all the time, and my mother (in all her wisdom of raising five children) told me he was hungry. I mentioned this to our doc, who waved it off and said my mother was from a different generation and didn't know better and that my son was just a cranky baby as he couldn't find anything medically wrong with him.

Well, mom was right. After his first bottle of milk with the cereal, he stopped his constant crying and was such a sweet, peaceful baby from then on. The poor kid was just hungry! I'm glad I didn't listen to the "experts" and wait until he was six months old. And he's now a healthy 12-year-old, perfectly fine, not overweight.

Docs know a lot, but there's something to be said about the wisdom of an experienced mother. And, by the way, you can buy bottles especially made for thicker mixtures of milk and cereal. They have a larger hole in the nipple. Just have to watch that the baby doesn't gulp it down too fast and choke.

Good luck!

Ok, 3 1/2 months..? Better to feed your baby a little cereal by spoon if they still wake up at night and need a little extra to get thru the night. Not alot just a couple of tastes and then the bottle at the nightly feeding and on to bed.

Putting cereal in the bottle, the hole in the nipple needs to be bigger and then the baby can choke. Although, I did it years ago and mothers have done the same thru the years but don't do it. Take time with your child giving it the cereal by spoon.

Remember in health class we learned that it is completely necessary for saliva to be present for food to be properly digested? You infant will begin anytime to show these signs (which most mommies think is teething). The human body develops this part of the digestive system at around 3 1/2 -5 months so you will need to simply watch for this. You can then begin with 1/4 tsp. of rice cereal (which is least likely to cause allergies) and mix it with warm formula. Each day you can add 1/4tsp. more till you reach 2 Tablespoons. Then you can begin to mix in 1/4 tsp. of banana doing the same additions. As far as adding to the baby's bottle, I prob. would not do this esp. since it makes it harder for the baby to suck out the formula thru the nipple (lest you risk cutting too large a hole and cause choking.) Babys tire easily sucking. But be sure and make up your own mind. Parents using good judgement based on common sense are the best parents of all!! :)

No you should not put any cereal in the bottle. Wait until she can sit up with a little support, ususally at 5-6 months. She should only get cereal wiht a spoon, not in a bottle. This won't teach her to eat if you put it in the bottle. Sorry you should really wait until she is atleast a little older. Also this won't help her sleep any longer either.

NO. You should never put cereal in a bottle, it is a choking hazard. Most babies are ready to start solid foods at 4-6 months.Talk to your doctor, and if your baby is ready, feed it to her from a SPOON.

Ask a doctor first and far most, but yes it would probably be fine. There are various reasons why doctors say no, one is because the tummy muscles take time to develope, and another is gas. You can take car of gas with mylicon drops, gas meds for babys and it works. If your child seems to be hungry more often like every two hours rather than every three to four hours then he or she is not getting enough vitamins. Sometimes the doctor will change the formula to help and sometimes they will suggest cereal. Also with some parents it can be that lack of sleep thing, and putting a teaspoon of cereal in the bottle helps the food last longer.

Most nutritionists don't recommend it. They say it can cause food allergies and obesity. However, I don't believe there jibber jabber. All 3 of my daughters were having a hard time staying full on just formula so I added a spoonful of rice cereal to there bottle and it helped wonderfully. They never had any food allergies and are quit petite like I was until I got pregnant and started gaining weight. My sister in law did the same thing for her 2 girls for the same reason. No food allergies or obesity with them either.

Cereal contains a high level of iron. You should speak with your doctor before changing your baby's diet, especially at this age. I have never been a fan of putting cereal in a bottle- you have to cut the nipple to be extra wide and still it can clog.

No, the Dr.s say that you should only feed babies from a spoon...not in bottles. It can be a choking hazard. If your baby has trouble with a spoon you can use your finger as baby's first spoon...it's always a good temperature and a soft texture.
