are gay bars and nightclubs good places to meet?-- if not where?

I'm a bi male seeking othere bi and gay males---i'm not into dancing and drink only occasionaly---just really want to know the best meeting places

I met my partner through a local gay bar. Next June sees our 4th year together. To answer your question though... here's a few suggestions as to where you can meet someone.

* Local gay/lesbian bar.
* Public place. (for example: local skating rink.)
* Coffee shop.

There are a lot of places where you could meet, and start a wonderful friendship. And yes... maybe it could develop into more. Always remember though:

1 Never swap too many details on the first meet.
2 Leave details of where u are going with someone u trust.
3 Make sure the place is public, and busy.

I understand how you must feel. Depending on where you live, a gay bar may be the only option you have to meet other gay people. Smaller towns may not even have that option. I was with a guy for 4 years, and we met at a gay bar. We eventually broke up and I moved to another town where I met my partner of going on 2 years. Gay bars can lead to long term relationships, but I don't think that happens very often. I know people who have met people through the internet, but that can be very dangerous and all people usually want is a quick hookup. I think it is probably best to make a few gay friends and hang out with them and their other friends. At least this way you're out meeting people and have a better chance to meet someone you like and actually have a face to face conversation with them without the boom boom boom of dance music or the risk of them freaking out on you.

The saying used to be "you will never meet anyone who is good in a gay bar". My current partner of twelve years I met in a bar, that was pre Internet. Why limit yourself to just one way or an other? If you keep an open eye out the Laundromat or even church could be the answer. If your careful the net is a great place too, but a little common sense goes a long way. Good Luck.

Listen, brother, gay bars are a really great way to meat gay bar type people. (You can ignore the 'gay' part, and the statement is still true.) You don't like that whole scene according to what you've said, so unless your looking for a really short term (like a few minutes) thing, you gotta look somewhere else.

And unless you want to end up broken on a dirty matress, with blood pouring out of your nose and a desperate wish to either be dead or in posession of time machine, don't ever try the Internet.

To be honest, your best bet is online.

Put an advert on a gay dating website. You'll get way more responses that way than if you just reply to other peoples adverts.

It also gives you a chance to specify the type of the bloke you want and if you ask for a picture, you can make sure they are not a monster before you meet up.

that depends on what yoru purpose is in wantign to meet others of like mind. If it is to drink and dance and possibly wind up in bed then some gay bars are fine but if you are more inclined to talkign over a coffee and exploring the topic with your pants on then there are often gay groups in many cities that provide good places to meet and chat and get to know yoruself.

Try Miami Beach, New York City, London, Amsterdam.
You don't really need a gay bar to meet people in those places.

If your city is large enough, check to see if there is a local GLBT Chamber of Commerce type organization. They will have fund raising events and other types of meetings where the chance of meeting someone is much more inviting than the bar scene.

If you want something a little more real look anywhere else on earth first.

Hell yes they are a good place to meet. But it is more fun if you get drunk, just not throw up on the guy you are making out with!! :)
