Honestly? It depends what you're looking for.
People here have given you their opinions and there is truth in them all, but everyone is different.
Tenerife does have some good resorts and some bad ones and if you're careful, spend a little time doing your homework and before you book accomodation please check reviews at places like www.tripadvisor.com I am sure you will find something you'll like in Tenerife at Christmas.

If it's lots of nightlife, bars and clubs with cheap (ish) accom then Playa De Las Americas is for you, but it can be dirty, sleazy and an expensive mistake. The accomodation at 2 & 3 star is very basic with the odd cockroach infestation thrown in for free- No I am not kidding- roaches are big and in their millions in Tenerife and the grotty accomodations have problems with the bugs- they get in the beds, the drawers, cupboards- everywhere- so be warned!
Let me also just say, theres no such thing as "Cheap" in Tenerife at Christmas. If you are there for Christmas day it can be expensive. and very poor value indeed. Its not unusual to pay top dollar for crap!

If you are a little more discerning then out at say Playa Fanabe going towards Adeje or Even Costa Adeje itself is much much nicer.
There are some half-decent apartments at Fanabe which come up on special offer- the Los Olivos- 2-3 star- basic, but ok.
The hotels are much nicer and worth the extra. The Costa Adeje Gran is lovely or The Cleopatra/Sir Anthony complex is worth a try. The Costa Adeje Palace and the Colon Guanahani are all good.

Los Crisitanos is nice too- The Arona Gran is the best hotel there, but there are some decent apartments too.

Tenerife is popular for a reason, many many people love it and return year after year, but you have to make sure what you book is right for you.

Good luck!

In Tenerife you are able to do any such thing you're feeling like any time of the season thanks to its weather, natural environments and tourist infrastructure created for enjoyment for the household which means this place is the perfect place for a good holiday and with hotelbye you can get it. In Tenerife are a lot of things waiting for you yourself to learn and one of those is in the south west shore of Tenerife. A place that's a magnificent location for watching whales free in the ocean. Around 26 species are found only off the shore, including baleen whales, killer whales, dolphins, pilot whales and even blue whales. In Tenerife you will also see The Teide National Park. At 3,718 metres, Teide volcano is Spain's highest peak and its two ecosystems produce the rise an experience filled with contrasts.

The Canary Islands are known for being the sunlight middle of Europe! See this sun with hotelbye . Canary Islands provide a delicate temperatures and a range of exceptional natural attractions. Five of its eight islands have already been reported a Biosphere Reserve, and the archipelago has four national parks. The most remarkable attractions in Canary Islands would be the beaches since they're just great for comforting in sunlight or experiencing water sports such as for instance windsurfing and scuba diving. In Canary Islands you will also be impressing by the interior interest like: walking, period touring, hiking and actually caving. Some of the most magnificent attractions of Canary Islands are: the volcanic scenery of Lanzarote, the beaches of Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria using their mud dunes, or the natural forests of La Palma and La Gomera.

In terms of the weather its a great idea. Lots of Europeans (Germans, Scandinavians) fly to the Canary islands also in Jan-Feb. and the packages are not that expensive (from Europe.) There might be a bit more of a youth holiday culture there, but its a lot safer than going to Egypt.

Yes, the weather is good most of the time (22-25degrees). The whole island is not full of chavs/teenagers, you can go to Los Christianos, Costa Adeje or anywhere in the north of the island and it is beautiful!! Fuerteventura is also a beautiful island (much less over-developed)

It is a rough old place nowadays, if you like mixing with chavs, and dont mind stepping over people having sex in the street it is a lovely place!

It's not a good place at any time. Full of chavs and beer-bellied, beer-swilling louts.
