It should be okay, but find a way to keep the lid safely open so the seals don't mold. But, then, after10 years it might cause a 'stroke' in the mechanism when re-started. Still, the electric for them is a large part of your electric bill, compare to possible repair cost and decide which gamble you want to make. Older ones are made a lot better than the newer ones.

You can turn them off but be sure to leave them opened so that air can circulate otherwise you will get terrible smells. I have a refrigerator that i shut down every year for 6 months (hurricane season). I always put a folded towl over the doors.

Yes, you can turn them off, however make sure they are empty when doing so . Preferably wash them out and then leave the doors open so they can dry . Leave door ajar too for the duration .
Oh yes, and unplug them !
Oh yes , (again) a open box of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda is a fine idea . LOL .
Happy New Year

That should be fine. I wouldn't leave them closed though because the lack of air circulation will make them stinky. Of course you will empty them before unplugging them. Also leave an open box of baking soda in there to keep it smelling fresh.

Bob, at the start, get a straw and a condom. Rubber band the condom over the straw and blow it up. utilising the blown up condom, PUSH on the 'Caps lock' key with the reservoir tip of the condom... sturdy luck!!!
