Investment is actual deployment of your capital in a business. It may be based on a sound assessment of the Company's fundamentals or based purely on speculation.Speculation means a wild guess on the kind of earnings your investments can bring or the amount of loss you might avoid by taking out the money presently invested in a particular share, because you guess it is going to lose money. I kinda disagree with the answers so far and would offer that the difference is the probability of a profitable return. What is speculation to one person is investment to another.

Investments are usually done after careful study. Things need not work as you plan but it is better than gambling.
Speculation is like shooting in the dark. It is pure gambling.
