Of course, as with all things, this depends. Using common sense, obviously the best public school is better than the worst private school (and vice versa). However, you need to make your decision by weighing it out individually.

Consider the following issues for each school (public or private) you are thinking about:

What is the population of the school, what is the student to teacher ratio, how many children are in an average sized class, is there computer assess, what is the library like (how many books does it have and how many of them were recently purchased), what is the annual overall expenditure per pupil, what after school activities are available, what foreign languages are offered, how do their students perform on SATs or other examinations, and what percent go on to college?

Any school/district should be able to provide you with all this information and then you can compare your choices and make the best most informed choice for you and more importantly your child.

In terms of learning, maybe, but not necessarily. Some teachers and professors who make tonnes of money really don't care about what they're teaching anymore and the students just become a pay check rather than learners. Public school teachers may care more because they didn't care to go to University for a whole lot more years for more money. But there are always horrible teachers. Also, in private school I think you have more pressure to do well because everyone else is there supposedly to outshine everyone else. I went to public school and it was one of the best in the country, including private schools. It all depends on the institution I suppose. You have to research the possible institutions. I personally would not go to private school or send a child to private school because of how judgemental and snobbish people with money are able to become.

It depends on the school and what you're looking for. If you want religion to be a part of the curriculum, then you may want to consider a parochial school. Some private school have an entrance exam, so you can be pretty sure that all of the students meet high academic requirements. Many public school can be just as good, if not better. You can research that online.

Although I have never been to Public School, I would definitely say that it is better than any weird and stupid Private School in the world.

I know this because I went to Private School, and I hated EVERYTHING about them; the people, the places we went to on field trips, and especially I hated the way the incompetent girls wanted me to go out with the dullest, stupidest, ugliest, and weirdest boy in the world; Mike Keyser (Ridgefield Memorial High School; Ridgefield, New Jersey; Class of 1990). He was (and still is) the world's dullest, stupidest, ugliest, and weirdest boy, and he was definitely no TOBEY MAGUIRE.

Public School is definitely better than any idiotic Private School in the world.

First of all one has to be clear about the difference in the two. What is public school - It is the school- private in all respects and boasts to be convent oriented, bears some St. name in its title, looks like a London based school, prsecribes smart dresses for the children, extracts lacs of rupees in donations, loads of books for the children etc. etc. Now a days such schools are well groomed in structure, huge buildings, air conditoned class rooms and buses and they provide all sorts of comforts along with the studies. All such schools claim to be international. All these schools are private ones. No govt. school can be a public school.

I think so. The children are exposed to the poor, rich and in between. They will be around different nationalities and I feel like they can be theirselves in public school.
