When will you realize that money is not the solution for every problem. Throwing money at a problem doesn't fix the problem and often makes it worse. Case in point: The Public School system, where there's an inverse ratio of the amount of money spent per student and test scores. How about the TRILLIONS of dollars spent on welfare and other feel-good/money-band-aid projects that have accomplished...what?
If you don't like how the money is spent, then vote your representitives out of office. Most people don't because they bring home the bacon (that's the 'pork' in the spending bills, that no one complains about except when someone else gets the money).

Actually, my money didn't pay for the fireworks. In our city, private business sponsors the events and pays for the fireworks. Besides, its a good opportunity to celebrate. Given current events in the world right now, people need to celebrate and feel good about where we live, who we are and the fact that we're all alive and kicking.

Oh qwityrbichin. People can't live on sermons and soda water. Big public displays of fireworks keep people from shooting their fingers off with little backyard displays. My father was a firefighter and before the city started the public show, he was always having to run off to save some damn fool who set his neighbors house on fire with a poorly aimed bottle rocket.
Professionals know how to do it safely.

We all need some enjoyment in life, but I will say that sometimes things are bigger and more expensive than they need to be. They are pretty to watch, and make me feel proud (examples:the firesworks displays that you see on T.V. or that cities put on) but I agree that it makes me wonder...is it really necessary?

Your right though, it is a waste of money. Why not buy presents or food for families who would otherwise go without.
