Small items can get caught between the drum and the inner parts of the washing machine, When your machine gives up the ghost, rip it open and all will be revealed !

BTW - what's a "Spair"....

No idea where the missing socks go, however, when my girls were little, so many went missing, that I had created a top drawer in my bedroom for the 'other' single socks to go into....after all, they need a home!! The plan was to keep the odd socks until I found the other ones.......which evidently never happened. I decided to count the socks in my drawer one day, thru sheer boredom, and was gobsmacked to count 58 odd socks in that drawer. I couldnt make one pair out of them!!

Since then, I have started using one of the net wash bags, just for socks.......and guess what......I havent lost one yet lol.

So now, my sock drawer is no more, and I have also learnt to buy my girls loads of the same socks, so that if one sock ever does go missing in the future, then I'm not going to ever know and neither will they lol :)

I read all the previous answers and acted on the information- no socks in the inner workings of my washing machine!
Wayne can I email you photos of my sad all alone socks for matching with anything in your garage?
What really sucks is that this wretched sock fetishist has been operating worldwide for for ever and yet sock makers still insist on selling them in pairs not triplets!

They are stuck inside a sleeve or leg pant. Try washing socks with towels and things that aren't tubed shaped. Then if the socks stick to these items, you'll see them. It is frustrating.

The sock monster eats them! You will get them back once you toss the mate you've been sorting and re-sorting all year. Make sock monkeys to scare away the sock monster and safety pin your socks together before tossing them in the laundry pile.

To sock heaven or hell, depending on weather they have been a good or bad sock. Some get picked up and taken to the sock pound.

If you watched the hogfather on sky over christmas, then you will have discovered the truth about the sock monster. He only eats one sock out of a pair. Not sure why though.
