By definition, the EU is composed of European states. The only marginal ones are Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Turkey, both mostly in Asia.
Besides that are the micro-states not already in the EEA and unlikely to join: Vatican, San Marino, Andorra.
The most likley future members are ex-Yugoslavian countries. The non-Baltic ex-USSR countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova) will not meet EU economic (or political) criteria anytime soon.
The next round will include Croatia (very European, but still perhaps too Nazi-like). Macedonia has the obstacle that the Greeks, and hence the Cypriots, are offended by its name, and will bawl childishly, and veto.

It is not a crime for anyone to be poor, whether they are an individual or a nation. In case you don't know, if we left the EU, we would be one of the poor nations as we get more money back from the EU than we give.

Hopefully as many as possible. So it takes money out of our taxes to help their countries but that's a good thing. They are real poor and the EU will really help them. In the long term it will benefit us in the rich western Europe. The economy will help support our's through trade and that. Also the EU helps unify Europe and secure peace so if there is another world war instead of fighting against each other we may fight alongside each other. Also the EU could help stand against the USA as it tries to boss the world around. I would one day like to see as much as Europe as possible in the EU

Poland was invited to join, and they're a very poor country. I've been there, I know.
Joining the EU will help them catch up to the rest of Europe. In addition to that, they have many tourist attractions (Polish pottery, anyone?), and that can help to boost their economy.
Transferring to using the euro rather than the zilotti (I have NO idea if I spelled that right) will also help to boost their economy.
Try going to Poland. My heart aches for those people.

All developed countries are rich enough at the swet and hardwork of developing countries, by exploiting such countries. Even EU is a political union to challenge US epxloitation so that to continue their exploitation.
