I am not sure how old you are but you sure do sound old enough to know what you want.

Anytime I see these questions, I also see a lot of MISANDRY in the answers...hatered of men. Just because you mum and dad could not get along, does not mean that it was all dad's fault. Most fathers make very good dads and many should be the custodial parent because it is mom that that abuses the kids, not dad but society has been brainwashed to believe that dad does most of the child abuse. It is not true. Far from it.

I wonder...how long as it been since you have seen your dad? Does he pay child support? Could it be that you mum does not want to risk losing that child support if you were living with your dad?

The bottom line is that our children need BOTH parents and in the absence of proven child abuse, there should be automatic EQUAL custody with all the expenses shared by both parents. This alone has prevented many divorces in the areas where it is the norm.

You can't. Why can't you go for a couple of months and see if you like it? If your mum has been bringing you up and you tell her you want to live with dad in another country then she is probably very upset. Talk to her and tell her how you feel.
Not sure if same applies in US or Australia with regards to full custody but isn't their a reason you mum has full custody?

What is your age? Usually at a certain age teens can decide who they want to live with, you can check into that and point it out to your mum that you want to come to the US live with your dad and go to school and then college.Or when you visit your dad,ask him to take you to a lawyer and you talk to a lawyer about it and have your dad file a petition in court for custody.Laws vary from State to State.

its tough to say, most moms have a hard time letting go for short periods of time never mind an entire year. depending on your age I'd say try to explain that it's a "life experience" the same way that some schools have exchange students who study abroad ... in this situation you would be in a safe environment. Perhaps between mom and dad they could set up somethimg to allow mom to be in US for periods of time with you

You can't make your mother say yes, but try to ask her for the reason she really doesn't want you with your father. She may know something you don't.
