Hi I study in New Delhi. My Physics teacher is very irritating. He puts down the students constantly. We are all dependent on him for getting good practical marks in the CBSE Boards. Generally, teachers lavishly dole out marks for practicals, as they are part of an otherwise external exam. So no one has complained (for fear of lesser marks?)

He marks unrealistically strictly and finds fault with everyone. He has completely demoralised my class. He is really too much, by accounts of all students.

I really dislike him. Some good things: no school now because of preparatory leave, February he'll mark his very last exam (the Board practicals), and in between beside one or two classes I have little to do with him. Still, I just have no confidence now. I am feeling quite low and depressed and find myself increasingly unable to do Physics. Please help.

It sounds like your teacher is incompetent.

Organise the students in your class to sign a petition. Present it to the school authorities. Demand that the teacher in question raises his teaching standards.

Document all problems with his teaching methods. Be clear and objective about it. The intelligent way that you write indicates to me that you capable of doing such a thing.

Talk to past students, ask them to write testimonials. The more students you get the more likely that authorities will listen. Get parents to help you out.

It is highly likely that other teachers already know that your teacher just is not up to standard. They may even help you in your cause.

Remember this. There is no excuse for substandard teaching.

You should demand the best.

First things first - Do you hate your teacher or physics .Be honest to your self.First thing - get up early in the morning . do some meditation and start your physics chapters with the ATTITUDE that you are reading physics[ or any subject] not to vomit in exams but you really want to gain knowledge and start exploring chapterwise on internet.Every topic is related to life.Example I was lucky that my physics teacher told me sound by taking me to music shop and what is bass , treble , frequency , sound ampflication etc and acoustics of good dolby theatre cinema sound and how quality of sound is important. This is just an example .Just smile at your teacher and wish him genuinely and CONFIDENTLY.Your confidence should come from YOUR KNOWLEDGE .got it pal.

I wish you good luck and Confident 2007 .This will happen just try .... and by the way have you seen lagey raho munnabhai ... do it now and see it again.

happy 2007 pal

the fact that the teacher is strict with his grading system is not necessarily the thing you should be concerned about.
The quote, "He puts down the students constantly," bothers me if he is saying demeaning personal things to the kids.
Bide your time and get out of it!
You may (after it's over) complain to his supervisors.

Just try to "get by"...hold on to the thought that you ONLY have until February!!!

Make a "count down" on a calendar...until the board practicals...

Try to picture him in your "mind's eye" sitting (with his pants down!) on the commode....picking his nose!!!

And...BEFORE you enter his class, take a deep cleansing breath (inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth!) and quietly make a positive affirmation...
(example) " I rise above all conflicts in my mind, and NO ONE can make me feel inferior. I am BETTER than one who must try to put me down in order to feel superior...I understand physics...and I can and WILL succeed!!!

Good luck..and one day...when you finish with this class and you become a successful person in your career...remember the life lesson you learned in his class...and ALWAYS have compassion for others!
