Baking Soda is the best non-toxic thing to use but instead of sprinkling it inside, My friend's husband would fill a sock with some and place the sock inside the shoe when at home. He use clorfams which are really known for their horrible smell after a day in the military! This seemed to work very well for him(and her! Phew!!)
