The question asks top scorer, so if that means goal scorer there is a tie as of 1/2/07 between Martin St. Louis and Alex Ovechkin with 25 goals each. Sidney Crosby is the current leader in overall points (goals and assists) with 58.

All of the awards and honours that he's won means nothing to a lot of people simply because they don't like him. Nothing else. They don't have anything personal against him, they just don't like the fact that he's been pegged the "golden boy" of the hockey world. People will always hate on the most popular people of whatever you're talking about, whether it be sports or the entertainment business. Nothing changes. We want to BE him. He's accomplished so much in such a short period of time and it sometimes feels like he shouldn't be allowed to accomplish so much at such a young age (I would know, I'm about the same age and I feel like I've accomplished nothing compared to him and other people around his age). It's worse when he's younger than you and he's done much more than most of us can ever dream of doing. People talk about how he whines and all that. Seriously, give him a break. He started in the league when he was 18, won in every standard that I know of. Haven't you ever whined when you were a teenager? Everyone grows up differently, and he just so happen to be the type that didn't settle for what he was given, so he "whined" instead of just dealing with it. He's stopped doing that as often because he matured, as you would expect from someone who has lots of growing up to continue doing. It will be interesting to see what happens if there was a day where he suddenly became terrible at hockey, then what would people say? It would turn into people making fun of him. Either way, there will be people who like him and people who hate him/make fun of him because he's famous.

As of Monday January 1st Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals leads the NHL in scoring with 25 goals in 39 games played. He is tied with Martin St. Louis for first place. Sidney Crosby is first in points not goals.

Do you mean the NHL(National Hockey League which is in Canada and the US)? In which case it is Crosby. Do you mean the AHL, which is the American Hockey League, not American National Hockey League? In that case it is Darren Haydar.

What is the "America NHL"?
Top scorer? Look it up. It's not all that difficult to find in a paper or on any sports site. Crosby right now is #1.
