How many will die due to guns? Very few. The presence or absence of guns does not affect the murder rate:

"It is the contention of this observer that few homicides due to shooting could be avoided merely if a firearm were not immediately present, and that the offender would select some other weapon to achieve the same destructive goal." - Marvin E. Wolfgang, Patterns in Criminal Homicide, (University of Pennsylvania Press, 1958) p. 82

"It is commonly hypothesized that much criminal violence, especially homicide, occurs simply because the means of lethal violence (firearms) are readily at hand, and thus that much homicide would not occur were firearms generally less available. There is no persuasive evidence that supports this view." - James Wright and Peter Rossi, Armed and Considered Dangerous, (Aldine de Gruyter, NY, 1986)

Gun control does not reduce gun misuse:

"...Consequently, when medical journal authors report that there is little evidence on a given topic, it may often really mean only that they made no serious effort to find any or chose not to report what they found. For example, in an article published in 1996 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Douglas Weil (research director of the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, affiliated with Handgun Control) and a colleague claimed that "there is little published research on the effectiveness of gun laws" (Weil and Knox 1996:60). In fact, there were, at the time this article was published, at least forty-five empirical studies of the impact of gun laws on violent crime, suicide, and gun accidents (Tables 8.4 and 11.1). Weil then proceeded to inaccurately claim that "with little dissent, these studies are generally supportive of the thesis that well-tailored gun laws can have a beneficial impact" (ibid.:60), when in fact the studies have generally indicated that gun laws, whether "well-tailored" or not, have no measurable impact on violence rates (Chapter 11; PB;Chapter 10)...." I have lost friends to individuals who misused guns. But it was an individual who chose to misuse the gun.

Do Liberals ignore the faces of people who WEREN'T killed because they could defend themselves with guns?

The violent crime rate in states that have concealed gun carry laws is LOWER than those that have gun control. Why? Because criminals will always find a way to get guns...but they are also cowards. They think twice about approaching a victim who might be carrying a gun versus one whom they know is helpless.

First- The cities with the highest violent crime rate also have the strictest gun control laws. Gun control does not work any better than laws banning drugs and prostitution. Why is it that countries like Switzerland have a automatic weapon in every home and an extremely low domestic crime rate? Don't believe me check it out for yourself. Or is it easier to whine about it and sound good to your uneducated friends than actually research something for yourself?
Second- In reference to Strangesuzy- Your remark that "guns are for people with a small penis", shows your inability to discuss a subject with any intelligence, rational, much less facts. Much easier to make derogatory remarks based on your emotions and apparently a very limited imagination. Hope your parents did not waste too much money on your education.

The thought process that brings one to thinking guns should be banned is for people with no intelligence. Why not ask you congressman to push for enforcement on the laws already on the books? In every state there are laws that make using a gun in commission of a crime a capitol offense yet the DA's give plea bargins to these criminals and then ***** about needing tougher gun laws. Why is that?

Don't be naive about liberals not owning you would be surprised how many own guns they own, it's my right as a citizen of this country to own them. It's my only line of defense right since i am somewhat disabled from a traffic accident i had so you'd have a hard time taking them away from me. Drunk Drivers kill more people each year than gun's so just try to take cars away hahaha

Of Course we do, just like Democrats ignore the faces of the dead caused by automobiles, home swimming pools, and carnival rides... Did we have Democrats clamoring for sword and dagger control in 1258 AD? How about rock registration in 3800 BC?

Excellent answer...give your first answerer the ten pointer!

Amazing how those who fall dead by guns and similar weapons, never get enough press or enough remembrance.

My personal belief is the more who die by gunshot, the more we disrespect their mothers and their origins.

That is why I will always have a high respect for the First Family...no, not that one...the one who had to have their baby in a cave/stable.

(Second answerer keeps his guns "safely" hidden, under lock and key, and nobody can find them...when he cleans them, he knows the old saying..."Every gun is loaded", so he abides by strict rules, and nothing could possbly go wrong...until that little kid happens upon a gun and plays "Cowboys and Indians" with his friend.)

(Answerer after me has all guns pointing out of his home, so no intruder can ever hope to escape alive...problem is, killing that intruder is a crime...if you happen to get lucky, that is. Element of surprise gives intruder the advantage.)

So what are you suggesting? that we ban all guns?
That would mean only the criminals will have them, banning all guns will only accomplish in denying the honest law abiding citizen from having them, it would not effect the criminal one moment, because the criminal obtains his gun illegally anyway.
And another thing, if the U.S. bans all guns and wants to take mine away...well...you know what the old bumper sticker used to say. "you can have my gun, when you pry it from my cold dead fingers"

The first response made me laugh. I enjoy my right to own a gun. I havent gone out and shot anyone. Do liberals ignore the truth?

Why are you blaming the gun instead of the criminal? Typical stupid liberal reaction. Liberals go out of their way to coddle criminals and then whine like babies when the same criminal offends again.
