How do I switch Broadband supplier and keep uninterrupted connection?

Want to switch UK Broadband Supplier - understand I need to give my new supplier a MAC code in order to switch.

Is there a way to avoid like a day (maybe more) without access? I know what these companies are like and I need my Internet! Can I overlap (I would be prepared to pay two suppliers for one month). Not sure how it works - can I only be connected to one supplier at a time?

befor you switch . just have cable net installed then cut the other one off
