John Coffee still must be executed. They show him the movie that has the song in it that he likes so much (sheesh, right now I can't think of the name of it). When he is executed the prison guards all cry. Then it goes back to the nursing home and the old man explains to his lady friend that he quit after that. She can't believe he is (Tom Hanks character). He tells her he is 108 yrs old, that someday he will die but for the time being is living and watching everyone else die. He has the mouse, Mr. Jingles with him. She (the lady friend) dies eventually and he is there for her funeral. It is a beautiful movie. You should watch it all the way through to get the full effect. (I must admit tho, it is very graphic, but my favorite part is when the prison guard gets the treatment from the others for what he did to Delacroix).
