Good question.
It may not matter much if he's not physically alive for the next few months. The sectarian warlords will use his death as an excuse to increase their violent attacks. In this way he will continue to influence events even if he is dead.
Or, his former supporters could produce fake videos of him and claim that he's still alive. Anything is possible.
Or, he really is still alive. He was supposedly not in U.S. custody when the execution took place. This does not mean we were not monitoring the event somehow, only that we weren't in direct control of the proceedings.
It may take DNA testing of the corpse to prove whether or not that's really him in that tomb. Of course, such testing would be subject to all sorts of customs, whatever they might be, that forbid such a thing.
Who knows?
Another way to look at it is this: for all we know, Osama bin-Laden is already dead - yet he still lives on in videos and recordings allegedly made by him recently. They may well have been made by him; but when? The point is that even if he is dead, some image of him is alive and is being used to support an agenda.
So there's no telling what they'll do with Saddam. There are people even now claiming that Hitler survived the war and lived the rest of his life in South American somewhere. In the U.S., there are still white supremacist groups that honor him and deny the holocaust ever took place. In fact, he has supporters in Iran right now.
Hatred can keep a corpse going for a long time.

He is More alive than before and much more alive than those who hanged him.
He is a strong leader even at his last moment in his earthly life.
Nobody who participated in his death will escape from the hand of Justice (the true Justice) sooner or later. He committed many crimes but he has the honor of staying firm against the invaders who occupied his beloved land. Now, more ugly crimes and massacures are being done and more Killings are there, The situation now is by all standards is deeply worse.
