Audioslave and The Red Hot Chili Peppers are good bands for those kind of rock songs but I'm having trouble finding other bands that have a lot of meaning to their songs.

One of my favourite bands, 'The Offspring', have some great stories in their songs.
Dexter Holland (lead) talks often about:
-Drinking ('One Fine Day', 'Worst Hang Over Ever')
-Drugs/Wasting Life ('Mota', 'What Happened To You?', 'Gotta Get Away', 'Hypodermic', 'The Kids Aren't Alright', 'No Hero')
-Pyromaniacy (either burining things or blowing them up) - ('Hand Grenades', 'Burn It Up')
-Death/Desease ('Beheaded', 'Vultures')
-The Man - ('All I Want','Pay The Man', 'Americana')
-Life - ('Nitro (Youth Energy)', 'Change The World', 'Amazed', 'I Choose', 'Get It Right', 'Not The One')
-Acting Cool - ('Don't Pick It Up', 'Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)', 'Hit That', 'Original Prankster')

He does so in a 'funny' sort of fashion almost poking fun at the ideas but also 'picking on' the people who have 'wasted' their lives in doing so.
I do enjoy a lot of their stuff, especially from 'Ixnay On The Hombre' as it seems to be their most meaningful.
I can't really say I have one that 'means the most' to me...

Maybe I would actullay say 'Not The One'. I've posted the lyrics below to give you an idea...

"Not The One"
By: 'The Offspring'

I'm not the one who made the world what it is today
I'm not the one who caused the problems started long ago
But now I deal with all the consequences that troubles our times
I carry on and never once have even questioned why
I'm innocent
But the wieght of the world is on my shoulders
I'm innocent
But the battles started are far from over
We're not the ones who leave the homeless in the streets at night
We're not the ones who've kept minorities and women down
Still we grow and then the problems they become our own
We carry on without even realizing why
We're innocent
But the weight of the world is on our shoulders
We're innocent
But the battles left us are far from over
We're not the ones whose pollution blackened our skies
And ruined our streams
We're not the ones who made the nuclear bombs
That threaten our lives
We're not the ones who let the children starve in faraway lands
We're not the ones who made the streets unsafe to walk at night
And even if we try and not become so overwhelmed
And if we make some contribution to the plight we see
Still our descendents will inherit our mistakes of today
They'll suffer just the same as we and never wonder why

Yeah, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have most meaningful songs, like Under The Bridge, Otherside, almost all of their songs are biographical.

Give a listen to "Late for the Sky" or "For Everyman" by Jackson Browne for some of the most beautiful, meaningful lyrics ever. The same holds true for "New York Minute" and :The Heart of the Matter" by Don Hendley.
Also, "Dust in the Wind was attributed to America, and in fact it was by Kansas and "Another Auld Lang Syne" is by Dan Fogelberg.

There are many meaningful songs out there but for my generation, I would choose For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield. There were a lot of protest songs written and performed back then, mostly about injustice, the Vietnam war, etc. One only has to listen to the lyrics to discover how meaningful they were.

"Dust in the Wind"
--America

A song about the meanininglessness of life and how we are powerless to affect change.

"Another Auld Lang Syne"
--artist not recalled

Usually played at holiday time. Its a depressing look back at lost youth, lost love, and the compromises we accept in life. A looking back in regret.

I have a whole list of others... just blanking on them right now...
