It depends on what you're playing. Usually rune stones are a form of Nordic charms you could say. They are usually stones with a form of lettering or symbol on them that represents something. They are believed to having magical powers of protection, cursing, etc... Many games require you to reunite a set of separated runes to awaken a form of god or creature. However, usually the stones are cast to different places for a reason so be careful of what you're bringing back with them!
