Me and my wife came to Florida to spend new years we ended up getting car jacked at gun point last night. My wife was really upset all night. Aside fromthe normal trauma something like that would bring, she really takes this as a sign that this year will be bad. We had a really rough year and were looking forward to a new year, but now she seems to have lost all hope. What can I do to make her feel more optimistic about the New Year? If you were a woman what would cheer you up?

If I were her all I would want to do is go home where I can truly feel safe and secure for a while. Don't let her hide out though, take her some place nice, or take her to visit a girl friend. She will better be able to talk out her feelings with another woman. She needs you for security but woman just seem to find the right words. Good Luck! Have a Safe and Happy New Year! =)

Go do something together that would stand for a new beginning, or a statement of life goes on in great ways. Go plant a tree and have a little ceremony of how your are starting a new life on its way. Say a prayer for healing, and for gratitude that the worst did NOT happen. The symbolism can stand as a subtle yet constant expmple of "good" can sprout from bad, and usually does!

Yesterday. My brother and Dad were stranded in New Mexico in the blizzard while trying to get from Indiana to Arizona. They made it through the night just fine, though very worried and more than a little cold. The worst thing that will come from that, is that we will have to listen to my Little bro's stories for YEARS! :{)

I am glad to hear that you and your wife are fine. I send hopes and prayers that your incident too, will simply spawn some stories, and make her realize that ultimately, you and her are fine. Anything else is just "stuff," and that can be replaced.

Tell her the New Year must be a good one since your both still alive and well after all that. It could have been much worse. Sorry for the lousy start of the New Year but I'm glad to hear you both are alright besides being a little upset which is normal. Maybe you'll get a new car and that will cheer her up a little bit. Take her out for a nice dinner and tell her how lucky you are to have her. ;o)

Sorry to hear about your ordeal! Try make her understand that what happens on New Year's certainly has no effect on the course of the rest of the year, it's just superstition. She's lucky to have a concerned husband like you around.

And yes, I agree, being with friends who care will help both of you get through the trauma.
