Why not? When you get married, you become best friends anyway! If you two know each other well enough right now, what the heck are YOU waiting for?

But when you start of as Best Friends, and it gets serious... look at it like this: A girl and Guy can never JUST be friends. Sometimes it meant to be. Go for it!
