It contributes more than it Receives from the E.U. and contributes more per head of population in Aid to the third world. If that is failure, then go for it Scotland & Wales.

Ireland was fighting in the 1st w.w. as part of the U.K. Did the British refuel the German Subs in Ireland? Also, a lot of property in the Business Sector of London and Companies are Irish owned.
And why are so many English people now working and living in Ireland?

Absolute rubbish lol. Ireland's economy is strong. It GDP (PPP) per capita is the 4th largest in the World $40,610 and it's HDI (Human Development Index) is also 4th highest in the World, 0.956
Ireland is a real economic success and I'm suprised that we in the UK don't hear about it so much. But maybe that's because we're ashamed to admit that it's economic success might of been helped by the fact that the country became independant.lol

I assume that you limit your Independence to that of Independence from the UK. Well no economy within the British Isles, or Eire and the mainland is poor, nor within Western Europe. Spain is now positively booming, so to is Portugal, and Eire has been for quite a few years. Scotland and Wales are still part of the UK, and the UK is the strongest member of the European Union at the moment, until Germany recovers from rebuilding the former East German. Ireland is the fastest growing economy. However, its lack of control over the inflation controls imposed by the euro, will mean that if the poorer countries joining Europe take a dive, or affect the Euro adversely, then Ireland may well loose a large chunk of its wealth overnight. If you want failure then you will have to go a lot further afield, to say perhaps former Commonwealth countries in Africa, which are the exception to the rule.

For seven of the G9 countries were former colonies of the UK, and the majority of the empire that became the Commonwealth is doing remarkably well when compared to their neighbours. If anybody says that Ireland is poor, they refer to the loss of its brightest talent, its younger intelligent people, whom choose to live in the much more dynamic city of London, where they can earn more money.

Because some people think that enormous wealth is what makes a country....actually it's the people. From having
witnessed a lot of Ireland back in the late 1970's, I would have
to say that they have more strength and stamina than a lot of
other countries.

They knew the strength to their economy was in boycotting incoming goods and only allowing sale of their cottage industries...something the United States has failed
their citizens with thest past two decades. And it's also a lesson they have failed to learn from history. Anyone remember the Boston Tea Party and why it came to be?

For those who are too young, it is because England was overtaxing the products they were importing to the colonies.
Tea just happened to be one of the biggest imports. The
colonists smartened up to the fact they were giving a lot more
of their existence to a corrupt government. Sound familiar to anyone yet? So, to get back to Ireland, they are doing what is
best for Ireland and there is nothing wrong with that.

Facts have nothing to do with stereotyping. Some people prefer to be lazy, ill-informed and influenced by bigotry originally fostered hundreds of years ago between the English and Irish. Its just easier for them. Asking people to excuse your ignorance should be an apology for commenting on a subject you know nothing about, not a preface for displaying that ignorance.

If ones entire GDP on monday is a potato ,then on tuesday one digs up another potato.

Then the GDP for that source has doubled overnight, clearly marking it as the fastest growing economy.
That doesnt make it the largest GDP.
The republic of ireland is not the largest GDP in europe.
Population growth is irrelevant unless it is a contributing factor to a nations economic wealth.

I suspect ireland doesnt contribute more to the EU than it recieves.
Perhaps you could display the source of your information.

Im sorry, but the republic of ireland has failed ,as have so many other lands given independence by the Empire.

They have this racist notion of peasants dancing to diddley music wishing each other the top of the morning. If the Irish economy continues to grow at its present rate, they will be able to buy the UK in about 10 years' time. (On second thoughts, it's probably better to buy Portugal, the weather and golf are better)
