Greyhound bus is $165.50 one way from Raleigh to Topeka.
It's 1160 miles from Raleigh to Topeka. At $2.25 a gallon, and getting 20 miles to the gallon, it would take 58 gallons to make the trip at a cost of $130.50

Walking would be the cheapest way. Or if time is an issue, taking a bus might be a bit more realistic.

Busses and trains are cheap. If multiple people are going in different cars you can all carpool and split the gas money.

You consider that expensive?!?!?! Use greyhound.
BTW, if you think about $2.30 a gallon is expensive, come to Europe where at the moment is not quite $6.00 a GALLON.
