mbps = megabytes per second

means it can transfer 100mb files\data in 1 second(from Pc to Pc)
if there's an internet connection which says 100mbps then it doesn't mean that it'll download files that fast, it'll download 10mb every second.

100mbps = able to transfer 100 mb every second.

100 megabits per second

the amount of information a device is capable of transferring

How many times have you been totally confused by measures of network speed or the size of a file? It's common. The reason is there are two different ways to measure computer data. One way is how computer data is STORED (bytes) the other way is how it is TRANSMITTED (bits). To complicate matters, various software vendors along with OS manufactures have used bytes per second to describe data transmission while bits per second is the appropriate measure. I suspect that this was rationalized by the thought that if a file is x bytes long, the user should know how fast x bytes can be transmitted. Much to the dismay of network engineers world-wide, this approach was adopted readily by consumers.

Confusion reigns supreme though! Devices that transmit data are still using the bits scale.

It means 100 megabits per second. It's a data transfer rate; the bigger the number, the faster.

(Compare this to 100 MBps, which stands for 100 MegaBytes per second. That's 8 times as much data per second.)

It means 100 million bits per second. A bit is the smallest unit in computing that contains information. It is the speed at which a device operates in relation to other devices.

well thats the rate of data transfer.. it could be the internet, your flash media, sd or mmc cards, cd drive, diskettes, dvds or even the hard disk.. the rate of transfer of data from one point to the other is measured in mbps

many people confuse mbps with mBps.. the capital B stands for bytes and the small one is bits

data transfer is measured in bits

8 bits equal one byte

so 100 mbps is actually 100 mega bits or 12.5 MegaBytes travelling from one point to the other!

hope that helps!

mbps is MEGA BYTES PER SECOND.

It gives the speed of communication during networking between two systems.

!00 mbps means ur PC can receive at rate of 100000000 bytes per second.

Computer uses binary language consisting of 0 an 1.
0100100010101 may represent certain data.
One 0 or 1 is 1 BIT
4 bits make 1 byte.
And 100 mbps means 100000000 0's or 1's can be received per second.
That represents the speed.More mbps ,more the speed.

Well 100mbs means 100 mega bites are going through your internet service every 1 second. That is typicaly (low) DSL. If you are a gamer then I would recomend upgrading to T1. I ust did and my server processes 1.5gbs which is 15 times faster then 100mbs. Although my PC was made in 1998 so it only proccesses about 15mbs. LOL
